SOLIFENACIN/VESIcare (sol i FEN a cin) treats symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as loss of bladder control or frequent need to urinate. It works by relaxing muscles in the bladder. It belongs to a group of medications called antispasmodics.
Solifenacin Succinate 10mg, Oral tablet
Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages
· Severity: Mild
· Notes for Consumers: Solifenacin may be administered with or without food; most foods do not interact. Side effects from Solifenacin may get worse if you take grapefruit juice. Do not significantly alter your intake of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Solifenacin. In addition, excessive intake of beverages with caffeine or alcoholic beverages may increase urination and may decrease the effectiveness of Solifenacin.
· Notes for Professionals: Beverages containing caffeine may aggravate bladder symptoms and counteract the effectiveness of solifenacin to some degree. Patients may wish to limit their intake of caffeinated drugs, dietary supplements, or beverages.

Grapefruit juice
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Limit your intake of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Solifenacin. Side effects from Solifenacin may get worse if you regularly consume grapefruit juice. Discuss any new or worsening side effects, such as confusion, constipation, dizziness, difficulty with urination, dry mouth and eyes, changes in vision, palpitations, or fast heartbeat, with your health care provider.
· Notes for Professionals: Patients should limit their intake of grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking solifenacin. Consideration should be given to not exceed a 5 mg daily dose of solifenacin in adults who continue to regularly consume grapefruit juice; do not exceed the initial starting dose in pediatric patients. Solifenacin is significantly metabolized via the CYP3A4 pathway. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may potently inhibit CYP3A4 metabolism in gut enterocytes. Potent CYP3A4 medications have been shown to increase solifenacin exposure by 2.7-fold.
