Repaglinide 1mg, Oral tablet
Alcohol
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication increases the risk for a dangerous decrease in your blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Contact your care team if you experience tremors or shaking, anxiety, sweating, cold or clammy skin, confusion, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat.
· Notes for Professionals: Patients should be advised to avoid or limit alcohol ingestion when treated with meglitinides. Alcohol ingestion increases hypoglycemic risk. In some patients, hypoglycemia can be prolonged. Patients should be educated regarding the signs, symptoms, and self-management of delayed hypoglycemia after drinking alcohol, especially when using meglitinides. The importance of glucose monitoring after drinking alcoholic beverages to reduce hypoglycemia risk should be emphasized.
Repaglinide 1mg, Oral tablet
Grapefruit juice
· Severity: Moderate
· Notes for Consumers: Although an interaction is possible, these medicines may be used together. Grapefruit juice may increase the actions of Repaglinide, by decreasing your blood sugar. If you use a blood sugar monitoring device at home, check your blood sugar regularly. You should also learn how to recognize the signs of low blood sugar. Report any significant changes in your blood sugar control to your health care provider.
· Notes for Professionals: Repaglinide is partly metabolized by CYP3A4. Drugs or foods that inhibit CYP3A4 may increase plasma concentrations of repaglinide. Grapefruit juice contains furano-coumarins and certain flavonoids which may inhibit the CYP3A4 isozyme. It is recommended that patients not significantly alter their grapefruit ingestion while taking repaglinide.
