Cannabis

· Severity: Major

· Notes for Consumers: Discuss cannabis use with your care team. The effects of your medication may be altered if used with cannabis. Call emergency services right away if you experience slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, or trouble staying awake.

· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid cannabis use while taking CNS depressants due to the risk for additive CNS depression and potential for other cognitive adverse reactions.

Alcohol

· Severity: Major

· Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can cause serious side effects, such as central nervous system (CNS) depression, and can increase the risk of an opioid overdose. Call emergency services right away if you experience symptoms of CNS depression: slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake. Talk to your care team about naloxone, a medication for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose.

· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid alcohol consumption while taking opioids. Alcohol consumption may result in additive CNS depression and may increase the risk for opioid overdose. Alcohol may also increase opioid drug exposure and the risk for fatal overdose by disrupting extended- or delayed-release opioid formulations. Consider the patient's use of alcohol when prescribing opioid medications. If the patient is unlikely to be compliant with avoiding alcohol, consider prescribing naloxone especially if additional risk factors for opioid overdose are present.

Food

· Severity: Major

· Notes for Consumers: Do not take Oxymorphone immediate-release or extended-release tablets with food. If you take this drug with food, you may get too much medicine at once, which can be very dangerous. You may have difficulty breathing. Take Oxymorphone either 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. No interaction with food occurs with Oxymorphone that you get by injection.

· Notes for Professionals: Food can increase the systemic exposure of oxymorphone. The Cmax and AUC of oxymorphone were increased by approximately 38% in fed subjects relative to fasted subjects after receipt of a 40 mg immediate-release tablet. Administer oxymorphone at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
