FLECAINIDE (FLEK a nide) prevents and treats a fast or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). It is often used to treat a type of arrhythmia known as AFib (atrial fibrillation). It works by slowing down overactive electric signals in the heart, which stabilizes your heart rhythm. It belongs to a group of medications called antiarrhythmics.

· Notes for Consumers: Do not smoke or use tobacco products while taking this medication. When used together, your medication may not work as well for you.

· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid smoking tobacco while taking flecainide. Smoking tobacco has been observed to decrease flecainide trough concentrations by 25% and may decrease efficacy.
