It works by increasing levels of the hormone progesterone in your body. This medication is a progestin hormone.

Grapefruit juice

· Severity: Moderate

· Notes for Consumers: Do not significantly alter your intake of Grapefruit or Grapefruit Juice when using oral or injectable Progesterone. Common side effects of Progesterone may increase, such as breast tenderness, headache, or altered vaginal bleeding patterns. Discuss any new or worsening side effects with your health care provider. Vaginal Progesterone preparations are not expected to interact.

· Notes for Professionals: Be alert for a possible interaction with oral or injectable progesterone. Grapefruit juice, a strong CYP3A inhibitor, may increase concentrations of progesterone, which may increase the risk of progestin-related side effects such as breast tenderness, headache, or altered vaginal bleeding patterns. Formal drug interaction studies have not been conducted; however, progesterone is metabolized primarily by hydroxylation via the CYP3A4 in vitro. Vaginal preparations of progesterone are not expected to interact.
