LUMATEPERONE (LOO ma TEP e rone) treats schizophrenia and bipolar depression. It works by balancing the levels of dopamine and serotonin in your brain, substances that help regulate mood, behaviors, and thoughts. It belongs to a group of medications called antipsychotics. Antipsychotic medications can be used to treat several kinds of mental health conditions.
Lumateperone 42mg, Oral capsule
Cannabis
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Discuss cannabis use with your care team. The effects of your medication may be altered if used with cannabis. Call emergency services right away if you experience slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, or trouble staying awake.
· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid cannabis use while taking CNS depressants due to the risk for additive CNS depression and potential for other cognitive adverse reactions.

Alcohol
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can cause serious side effects, such as central nervous system (CNS) depression, and can increase the risk of falling. Call emergency services right away if you experience symptoms of CNS depression: slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake.
· Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid alcohol consumption while taking CNS depressants. Alcohol consumption may result in additive CNS depression.
Lumateperone 42mg, Oral capsule
Grapefruit juice
· Severity: Major
· Notes for Consumers: Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking Lumateperone. Grapefruit juice may increase the risk for side effects from Lumateperone such as dizziness, low blood pressure, and drowsiness.
· Notes for Professionals: It is advisable to have patients avoid grapefruit juice and grapefruit during treatment with lumateperone due to an expected significant increase in lumateperone exposure and risk for side effects. Lumateperone is a CYP3A4 substrate; grapefruit juice is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor. Coadministration of lumateperone with a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor increased lumateperone exposure by approximately 4-fold.
