SILDENAFIL (sil DEN a fil) treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition that causes high blood pressure in the lungs. It works by relaxing your blood vessels and lowering the blood pressure in your lungs, which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood to the rest of your body. It can also help you breathe easier and be more active.

This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
Take this medication by mouth. Take it as directed on the prescription label at the same time every day. Shake well before using. Use a specially marked oral syringe, spoon, or dropper to measure each dose. Ask your pharmacist if you do not have one. Household spoons are not accurate. Do not mix this medication with other medications or flavoring. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop.
This medication comes with INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Ask your pharmacist for directions on how to use this medication. Read the information carefully. Talk to your pharmacist or care team if you have questions.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 1 year for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.
Tell your care team right away if you have any change in your eyesight or hearing.
This medication may affect your coordination, reaction time, or judgment. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. Sit up or stand slowly to reduce the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Drinking alcohol with this medication can increase the risk of these side effects.
Contact your care team right away if you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours or if it becomes painful. This may be a sign of a serious problem and must be treated right away to prevent permanent damage.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
After this medication is mixed by your pharmacist, store it below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F) or in a refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees C (36 and 46 degrees F). Do not freeze. Throw away any unused medication after 60 days.
