BENRALIZUMAB (BEN ra LIZ oo mab) prevents the symptoms of asthma. It is often prescribed when other medications have not worked well enough or cannot be tolerated. Do not use it to treat a sudden asthma attack. It may also be used to treat eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), a condition that causes inflammation in the small blood vessels of the body. It works by decreasing the amount of certain white blood cells (eosinophils) in your body. This helps decrease inflammation. It is a monoclonal antibody.

This medication is injected under the skin. It can be given by your care team in a hospital or clinic setting. It may also be given at home. If you get this medication at home, you will be taught how to prepare and give it. Take it as directed on the prescription label. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop.
If you use a pen, be sure to take off the outer needle cover before using the dose. It is important that you put your used needles and syringes in a special sharps container. Do not put them in a trash can. If you do not have a sharps container, call your pharmacist or care team to get one.
A patient package insert for the product will be given with each prescription and refill. Be sure to read this information carefully each time. The sheet may change often.
This medication comes with INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Ask your pharmacist for directions on how to use this medication. Read the information carefully. Talk to your pharmacist or care team if you have questions.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 6 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.
If you are taking this medication for asthma, do not stop taking your other asthma medications unless instructed to do so by your care team.
If you get this medication at the hospital or clinic: It is important not to miss your dose. Call your care team if you are unable to keep an appointment.
If you give yourself this medication at home: It is important not to miss your dose. Talk to your care team about what to do if you miss a dose.

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Store in a refrigerator or at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Do not shake. Do not expose to heat. Protect from light. Keep this medication in the original container until you are ready to take it.
Refrigeration (preferred): Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
Room Temperature: This medication may be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days. If it is stored at room temperature, get rid of any unused medication after 14 days or after it expires, whichever is first.
To get rid of medications that are no longer needed or have expired:
-Take the medication to a medication take-back program. Check with your pharmacy or law enforcement to find a location.
-If you cannot return the medication, check the label or package insert to see if the medication should be thrown out in the garbage or flushed down the toilet. If you are not sure, ask your care team. If it is safe to put it in the trash, empty the medication out of the container. Mix the medication with cat litter, dirt, coffee grounds, or other unwanted substance. Seal the mixture in a bag or container. Put it in the trash.
