LOXAPINE (LOX a peen) treats symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
This medication is inhaled by mouth. It will only be given in a hospital or clinic setting. Your care team will show you how to take this medication right before you use it. Follow the instructions for use carefully.
A special MedGuide will be given to you before each treatment. Be sure to read this information carefully each time.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. Special care may be needed.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse. Your condition will be monitored carefully while you are receiving this medication.
This medication may cause breathing problems. Your care team will check you for breathing problems before and after you take this medication. You will be observed closely for about 1 hour after you take this medication. Tell your care team right away if you have wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath at any time after taking this medication. Breathing problems that occur after taking this medication may require additional treatments.
You may get dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this medication affects you. Do not stand or sit up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Alcohol may interfere with the effect of this medication and make you more dizzy. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
This medication can cause problems with controlling your body temperature. It can lower the response of your body to cold temperatures. If possible, stay indoors during cold weather. If you must go outdoors, wear warm clothes. It can also lower the response of your body to heat. Do not overheat. Do not over-exercise. Stay out of the sun when possible. If you must be in the sun, wear cool clothing. Drink plenty of water. If you have trouble controlling your body temperature, call your care team right away.
This does not apply; this medication is not for regular use.
